2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Follows Poor Feedback

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the new Lead of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most popular titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all eager to keep observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
