Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

An important official stated the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
